Join a world-class research and clinical team at UMass Chan Medical School as a Physician Scientist in Ophthalmology with a Retina Specialty. UMass Memorial Medical Group (UMMG) and UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) are seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Ophthalmologist with Retina Sub-Specialty Fellowship training and experience in clinical or translational research. This position offers a unique opportunity to establish a retina clinical practice while focusing on developing a research career in a vibrant, growing academic environment.

As part of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, you will contribute to expanding services and research in central Massachusetts, serving a community of one million people. Based in a new Eye Center with a residency program, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaboration with esteemed researchers across multiple fields. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with your training and experience.

Position Highlights:

  • The role combines research and clinical responsibilities with at least 50% research focus.
  • Opportunities for research in various areas, including risk factors, biomarkers, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, ocular imaging, predictive models, and artificial intelligence.
  • Collaboration with established investigators in retina research, leveraging existing databases, case series, and ocular images.
  • Access to numerous scientific core labs, including bioinformatics and AI resources, for interdisciplinary research collaborations.
  • Responsibilities include directing research projects, writing manuscripts, presenting at scientific meetings, and participating in clinical trials.
  • Working with faculty and residents to develop and conduct clinical research studies.
