Retinal Surgeon
The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking an Open Rank Vitreo-Retinal Surgical Ophthalmologist to support its missions of health care, education and research. This position is located in the School of Medicine Ophthalmology department. UMMC’s main campus is located in Jackson, MS with multiple sites throughout the state.
UMMC is the state’s only academic health science center and provides the only: Level 1 trauma center, Level IV NICU, Children’s Hospital, and solid organ transplantation services. UMMC is the second largest employer in Mississippi with approximately 10,000 employees. UMMC has three specialized hospitals with 722 beds, up to 125 specialties, and an annual budget of $1.6B.
Position Summary: The position includes clinical and surgical treatment of adult and pediatric patients with vitreous and retina conditions and diseases. Responsibilities include resident and fellow teaching and training in the clinic and the operating room. “City wide retina call” is shared with the other full time UMMC vitreo-retinal surgeon as well as the other retinal group in town, but all emergency surgeries are performed only at UMMC. Applicants must have completed an accredited vitreoretinal surgery fellowship and should be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
This is a full-time faculty position in an academic setting with opportunities to incorporate clinical and/or basic research. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
