Retina Specialist

Yale School of Medicine
Ophthalmology and Visual Science

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale School of Medicine is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor faculty member with a subspecialty interest in Vitreoretinal surgery. A further subspecialty interest in pediatric vitreoretinal surgery or retinal degenerations is advantageous but not required.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale has a long-standing tradition of excellence in clinical care and research in multiple subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. Our faculty provide clinical services for patients with over 90,000 visits annually at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Dana Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, and the West Haven Veterans Affairs Hospital. We have a strong and competitive residency program, which consists of 15 residents, and fellowship programs in retinal diseases and glaucoma.  The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is located within the Yale University School of Medicine, which is one of the nation’s oldest and most competitive medical schools, consistently ranking in the top few in federal research funding. Clinical services are delivered through Yale Medicine, which is the largest multispecialty physician practice in New England, containing over 1,500 providers.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is affiliated with the Yale New Haven Health System, a growing health care system including Yale-New Haven Hospital and Saint Raphael’s Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science has clinical offices at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology in New Haven, Stratford/Bridgeport and Guilford, CT, with easy access to the state-of-art ambulatory surgical centers in Bridgeport, Greenwich and Guilford. The Department has expanded into Fairfield County and beyond. Our department is growing, with plans to double its clinical and academic footprint over the next 5 years, adding multiple new clinical and research faculty members to coincide with this geographic expansion, while expanding our portfolio of research scientists and clinician scientists.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate who is interested in building a solid career in academic medicine in a superb setting for clinical practice, education, and research. The ideal candidate will be devoted to clinical excellence, to advancing our knowledge of understanding and treating ocular diseases, and have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students. Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology and must have completed their fellowship training in corneal diseases.  Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications. Applications from clinician scientists are particularly encouraged.
