QEII Foundation Scholar in Glaucoma Research

The Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University is pleased to invite applications for the QEII Foundation Scholar in Glaucoma Research. Building on the excellent work of the previous holder of this position, the new Scholar will develop and direct an internationally recognized research program in glaucoma research using clinical and/or basic science approaches. Of equal importance is the ability of the Scholar to interact with the broad academic and research community and act as a spokesperson for the Canadian glaucoma community.

The responsibility of the Scholar will include expanding and enhancing the Department’s existing research programs in glaucoma by better understanding disease pathophysiology, its detection, progression, and development of effective treatments in the fight against glaucoma as a major blinding disease.

The successful candidate will have a MD and/or PhD in research areas which may include imaging, experimental models, genetic and proteomic analyses, structural and functional changes as a result of the disease, or other relevant areas. The candidate must also have a record of obtaining extramural research funds from national and international granting agencies. Demonstrated expertise and success in glaucoma research, ability to mentor trainees and professional development are essential. The successful candidate should have experience in developing and maintaining partnerships and collaborations with industry, and in the public and private sectors.

The appointment will be for a five-year term and renewable pending satisfactory review. The successful candidate must qualify for an appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and will have the opportunity for cross appointments to other departments commensurate with qualifications and experience.
