Glaucoma Ophthalmologist

The Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Health System (LUHS) and the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital are seeking a full-time glaucoma ophthalmologist.  Candidates must have strong academic interests and commitment.  Responsibilities include patient care, clinical teaching of medical students and residents, as well as clinical and/or basic science research.  The appropriate academic appointment will be provided based on the candidate’s qualifications.  Candidates must have glaucoma training.

Loyola Medicine is a quaternary care system based in the western suburbs of Chicago that includes Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) in Maywood, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital (GMH) in Melrose Park, MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn and convenient locations offering primary and specialty care services from 1,772 physicians throughout Cook, Will and DuPage counties.

LUMC is a 547-licensed-bed hospital that includes the William G. and Mary A. Ryan Center for Heart & Vascular Medicine, the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, a Level 1 trauma center, Illinois's largest burn center, a certified comprehensive stroke center and a children’s hospital. The medical center campus is also home to Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, the Loyola Center for Fitness, and the Loyola Outpatient Center (LOC). Loyola Medicine is a member of Trinity Health, one of the nation’s largest health systems with 94 hospitals in 22 states.

Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital (http://www.hines.va.gov/ ), located on a 147-acre campus 12 miles west of downtown Chicago and bordering Loyola's medical center, offers primary, extended and specialty care and serves as a tertiary care referral center for VISN 12. Specialized clinical programs include Blind Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Neurosurgery, Radiation Therapy and Cardiovascular Surgery. Hines VAH currently operates 483 beds and six community based outpatient clinics in Hoffman Estates, Kankakee, Oak Lawn, Aurora, LaSalle (Peru), and Joliet.

The Department of Ophthalmology provides 40,000 combined visits per year at all locations. Faculty members see patients at Hines VA hospital, LOC as well as 4 other satellite offices. The glaucoma ophthalmologist will see patients at the LOC, the Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge (a 104,000 sq ft multispecialty outpatient facility), and Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital.
