Chair - Division of Ophthalmology

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking a Chair to direct its Division of Ophthalmology. Candidates should have excellent management and interpersonal skills that will allow him or her to lead, grow and develop a division of highly skilled clinicians. Applicants should also maintain a continued interest in the practice and advancement of Ophthalmology.

The Division has four offices and a state of the art eye surgery center at our Peabody hospital. Members of the division also see patients in private practices throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  The successful applicant will lead a dynamic ophthalmology service with 18 comprehensive and subspecialty ophthalmologists and 9 optometrists seeing over 80,000 patients and performing over 3,000 intraocular surgeries per year.

The Division has the latest in ophthalmic technology including OCT-A, Optos wide field fluorescein/ICG angiography, Galilei corneal scanner, corneal crosslinking, LenSx , ORA, 3D visualization system.  Division members are active in clinical and translational research and are supported by a dedicated research coordinator.

The Division participates in the residency teaching program of the New England Eye Center and division physicians qualify for academic appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine. The Division maintains a Lahey/Beth Israel 2 year retinal fellowship program (1 fellow per year) and has longstanding teaching and service relationships with ophthalmology clinics in Egypt, Turkey, and El Salvador.

The responsibilities of the Chair include the direction and administration of the professional, education and research programs of the Division.  The Chair is responsible for physician recruitment and professional development, achieving divisional quality, patient and staff experience as well as financial goals, including productivity and total medical expense.  The Chair is accountable for developing new initiatives, effectively managing resource allocation, and optimizing divisional operations. Candidates should be prepared to lead the division in a growing health system and ensure the delivery of excellent clinical care, while fostering a culture of teaching and research.

Applicants must be board certified in Ophthalmology and have an established record of achievement in the field.  A background warranting appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor is desirable.  Additional business training or experience is desired but not required.
