Cornea Specialist, Faculty

University of Michigan
Ophthalmology/Kellogg eye center

Michigan Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking outstanding clinician or clinician-scientist candidates with fellowship training in cornea.  Successful candidates will be expected to establish a clinical practice and may develop an independent research program in visual sciences with a primary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology and a joint appointment in an appropriate basic science department (if applicable).   Opportunities for partnering with other disciplines exist and the ideal candidate will be interested in innovative program development that addresses the clinical and research needs of our patients.

The candidate will be expected to participate in research and graduate education as well as in departmental efforts in education in ophthalmology and visual sciences. Additional teaching duties may be associated with a joint appointment in a basic science department.  The University of Michigan Medical School provides an outstanding academic environment for all areas of biomedical sciences and has for many years been a leading center for research in ophthalmology and visual sciences.  Vision research at the University of Michigan is supported by a Vision Core grant supporting outstanding facilities and an NEI-funded training grant for graduate students and fellows in eye research.

Located in culturally-rich southeastern Michigan, the department has over 100 clinical and research faculty and more than 500 employees in 10 different locations surrounding the beautiful, vibrant, and diverse community of Ann Arbor.  Our guiding principles are teamwork, caring, inclusion, innovation, and integrity.

Required Qualifications

We welcome applicants to apply who are Board-eligible or certified in ophthalmology and have completed a cornea fellowship.  Successful candidates will have an MD ± PhD degree, or equivalent, in areas as described above. Documentation of scholarly ability and achievement (record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; record of acquisition of external funding for research programs, detailed research plan, collaborative research experience) is expected for our clinician-scientist candidates. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education and possess critical teaching skills.
