Clinician Scientist MD/PhD

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) invites applications for a full-time position as a clinician-scientist at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The ideal candidate will hold an MD or MD/PhD degree with extramural (NIH) funding and cutting-edge research in vision science. Priority will be given to candidates with a productive history of translational research and activity in ocular immunology, and a strong track record of scholarly publications and presentations. Leadership roles in academia and scientific communities as well as excellence in teaching and mentoring are also preferred.  A generous start-up package, substantial laboratory space and equipment, and a highly supportive endowed chair are included.

The vision research community at OUHSC consists of over 20 laboratories with research interests in ocular microbiology and immunology, retinal cell biology and degenerative diseases, ocular diseases across the lifespan, diabetic ocular and vascular complications, novel therapeutics, genetics of inherited retinal diseases, glaucoma, and myopia. Faculty are members of and collaborate with scientists affiliated with the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, Stephenson Cancer Center, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and the Reynolds Center on Aging, to further academic and research efforts outlined in the OUHSC Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will collaborate with campus colleagues to advance the University’s research priorities in diabetes, aging, and oncology, and is encouraged to apply for a joint appointment in basic science departments in the OUHSC College of Medicine, including the Departments of Microbiology and Immunology, Physiology and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Pathology, Cell Biology, or Pharmaceutical Sciences. Vision scientists also collaborate on translational research with clinicians located at the Dean McGee Eye Institute that physically houses the Department of Ophthalmology and nine vision research laboratories. The successful candidate will join a diverse group of faculty in the Department, which has a strong history of support from the National Eye Institute, Research to Prevent Blindness Inc., and other extramural foundations and NIH institutes that fund vision research. Vision scientists also enjoy support from a long-standing P30 Vision Core Grant from the NEI, and its vision research trainees are currently supported by an NEI T32 Vision Training Grant.
