Position description

The Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at UC San Diego (http://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/eyes/Pages/default.aspx) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

The Ophthalmology Department, Shiley Eye Institute, and UCSD Vision Research are expanding. The Department is recruiting faculty in the areas of biomedical informatics and/or artificial intelligence.

The selected candidate(s) will meet and consult with other scientists and researchers to analyze data sets utilizing computational tools. Ideal candidates will develop dynamic simulations, and perform pattern analyses of biological systems in the Ophthalmology field.

The appropriate series and appointment will be at the Assistant Professor Rank based on candidate's experience and qualifications. Series will include Ladder Rank and In-Residence with secured extramural funding.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have an MD, PhD or MD/PhD in health related areas. Candidates must have the experience in creation of data algorithms and specialized computer software skills to identify and classify components of a biological system, such as DNA and protein sequences.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates with outstanding productivity in research and clinical care are preferred.
