Comprehensive Ophthalmologist or Glaucoma Specialist

Summary

The Ophthalmology Division at Denver Health is seeking a board certified or board eligible Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join our expanding, vibrant team of ophthalmologists and optometrists. Glaucoma fellowship training is a plus. As Colorado’s primary safety-net institution, Denver Health serves as a model for other safety net institutions across the nation. Denver Health serves as one of the graduate medical education sites for the University of Colorado, of which the ophthalmology residents spend approximately a quarter of their residency at this site. The successful candidate will be engaged in teaching ophthalmology residents, both in the clinic and operating room, and also in teaching medical students on rotation. In addition to teaching and supervising residents, this position also offers the opportunity to develop one’s own clinical and surgical practice. This individual will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Colorado and will be given the opportunity to participate in the academic pursuits of the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Physicians at Denver Health are faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine serve as teachers for students seeking clinical experience at Denver Health and provide education for post graduate medical trainees.

2. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

1. Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent required.

2. Board Certified or Board Eligible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.

2. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.

3. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.

4. Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.

5. Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.

6. Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.

7. Performs in a tactful and professional manner.

8. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

9. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Computers and Technology

1. Computer skill required - Proficient in Outlook and general EHR functionality.

2. Computer skills preferred – experience with the Epic EHR platform.

Certificates, Licenses and Registration

1. Medical license to practice in State of Colorado required.
