Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is expanding and seeks an outstanding Vitreo-retinal Surgeon.

The successful candidate will have a busy clinical practice at the UNM Hospital Eye Clinic. Applicants are expected to have completed surgical Vitreo-retina fellowship training. Duties for the position include sharing responsibility with existing faculty for clinical work, call, and training residents.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and credentials. Individuals are expected to have a strong commitment to clinical care, teaching, and research in an academic setting.

The UNM Ophthalmology program covers all facets of Ophthalmologic surgery. As part of the UNM Health System, the Eye Clinic provides a rewarding mix of tertiary and indigent care.

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment for good reason. Albuquerque is a culturally rich and naturally beautiful metropolitan area. The people are friendly and the area has a lively arts scene, close to the galleries of Santa Fe and Madrid NM. Albuquerque is an attractive area for outdoor enthusiasts; we have year-round good weather and easy access to the outdoors (the Sandia mountain wilderness is 20 minutes from UNM). There are two national laboratories nearby: Sandia and Los Alamos.

This position may be subject to criminal records screening in accordance with New Mexico state law.

Minimum Qualifications for position:

  • Completion of an Ophthalmology Residency Program
  • Completion of Vireo-retinal Fellowship
  • Board certified/eligible in Ophthalmology
  • Eligible for licensure in New Mexico
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications for position:

  • Experience in clinical education
  • Experience in clinical research
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
