The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the Yale School of Medicine is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Yale Medicine Ophthalmology in Greenwich. Applicants should be subspecialty trained and eligible for appointment as Professor or Associate Professor at the Yale School of Medicine.

The ideal candidate would be a regional and national thought leader who would have  their clinical activity mainly in Greenwich, Connecticut, and would have some clinical activity and their academic activity, including teaching and research, integrated into the academic and teaching mission of the university at the main campus in New Haven. The ideal candidate would establish a permanent and specialized clinical enterprise within Greenwich Eye and Ear, a center of excellence in Greenwich and part of the Yale New Haven Health System. 

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale has a long-standing tradition of excellence in clinical care and research in multiple subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. Our faculty provide clinical services for patients with over 100,000 visits annually at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Dana Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, and the West Haven Veterans Affairs Hospital. We have established practice sites in New Haven, Guilford, Stratford, and Greenwich, with the goal of providing excellence in clinical care throughout the state of Connecticut. Our department is growing with plans to add multiple new clinical and research faculty members to coincide with this geographic expansion.

We have a strong and competitive residency program, which consists of 15 residents, and 2 fellowship programs.  The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is located within the Yale School of Medicine, which is one of the nation’s oldest and most competitive medical schools, consistently ranking in the top few in federal research funding. Clinical services are delivered through Yale Medicine, which is the largest multispecialty physician practice in New England, containing 1,400 providers.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is affiliated with the Yale New Haven Health System, a growing health care system including Yale-New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael’s Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, and Milford Hospital.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a thought leader in their field who is devoted to clinical excellence, to advancing our knowledge of understanding and treating ocular diseases, and must have a firm commitment to education. Candidates must be certified or be eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology and must have completed subspecialty training after an ophthalmology residency. Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications.
