Medical/Vitreoretinal Surgery Retina
We are seeking outstanding candidates with fellowship training in medical retina and/or vitreoretinal surgery and a clinical or basic research focus on retinal diseases. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a clinical medical and/or surgical retina practice and an independent clinical, basic, or translational research program in visual sciences with a primary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology. A joint appointment in an appropriate basic science department will be considered for applicable candidates.
The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental educational programs in ophthalmology and visual sciences. Additional teaching duties may be associated with a joint appointment in a basic science department. The University of Michigan Medical School provides an outstanding academic environment for all areas of biomedical sciences and has for many years been a leading center for research in ophthalmology and visual sciences. Vision research at the University of Michigan is supported by a Vision Core grant supporting outstanding facilities and an NEI-funded training grant for graduate students and fellows in eye research.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates will have an MD ± PhD degree, or equivalent, in areas as described above. Documentation of scholarly ability and achievement (record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; record of acquisition of external funding for research programs, collaborative research experience) is expected. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education and possess critical teaching skills.
