Job Description

The West Virginia University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences seeks to fill one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are particularly interested in candidates with innovative research programs focused on fundamental mechanisms underlying human ocular disease. Investigators whose work demonstrates strong translational potential to advance the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of blinding diseases, including but not limited to retinal diseases, glaucoma, and corneal disorders, will be given the highest priority.

Startup packages are highly competitive, and salaries include a significant state-funded component. Further, successful candidates may be eligible to participate in an NIH-funded, mentored career development program at WVU and may apply for funding from the Visual Sciences Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (https://medicine.wvu.edu/biochemistry/visual-sciences-center-of-biomedical-research-excellence/).

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is part of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, which incorporates the WVU Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health. Research at the Health Sciences Center is supported by state-of-the-art core facilities at HSC and throughout the WVU campus.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for the position are a PhD and/or MD plus three years of highly productive postdoctoral research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program and be an active participant in department and school-wide research forums and seminars. Participation in the educational mission of the School of Medicine is expected through teaching in undergraduate, graduate and/or professional programs.
