Job Description

The Faculty Glaucoma Specialist in the Department of Ophthalmology provides clinical, teaching and research duties, as their experience and interest allows. This position also supervises medical students and residents in clinics and surgeries as well as participates in the didactic teaching program. Faculty interested in research may be afforded protected time to complete clinical and bench research but will be encouraged to participate in clinical research and scientific presentations at national/regional meetings in addition to their clinical and teaching duties.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Provide services as an Ophthalmology, Glaucoma Specialist, comprising of comprehensive clinics and surgery days.
  • Participate in the didactic teaching program including supervising medical students and residents.
  • Participate in the shared rotation of call coverage, inpatient consults and JayDoc clinics.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with patients as monitored by the hospital's patient experience survey.
  • Serve on departmental committees and provide other service to the School of Medicine and the University as needed.
  • Participate in clinical research and scientific presentations at national/regional meetings as appropriate with academic track.
  • Provide clinical and surgical services to the VA and/or other sites under Professional Services Agreement with The University of Kansas Health System.

Work Environment

  • On-call duties will be on a shared rotation based on the number of faculty members.  

Required Qualifications:

Education: Medical Doctorate or equivalent degree.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Board eligible or board certified in Ophthalmology and successful.
  • Licensed in the State of Kansas of eligible for licensure in Kansas.

Work Experience:

  • Completion of a surgical Glaucoma fellowship.
  • Experience in a clinical and surgical Glaucoma practice and OR settings

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Academic background involving teaching with interest in clinical or basic research as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Experience in growing own research programs with the experience of obtaining funding from public and private sources is desired.
