At the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kansas, we are actively recruiting for a full-time Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery Specialist as an assistant, associate, or full professor, depending upon qualifications.

Our department is fully accredited with four residents per year, and we have faculty full-time in cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, vitreoretinal surgery, glaucoma, comprehensive ophthalmology, optometry, oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery and pediatric ophthalmology. The patient need is indeed great, and the growing demands prompt our search. 

Located in the City of Prairie Village just south of Kansas City, Kansas, our 17,000 sq ft facility on the first level has 32 exam lanes, with plans to add at least six more this spring. The second floor is home to faculty and resident space, auditorium, our ASC with two ORs and a laser suite with four clinical lanes.   

We have online, internet-available imaging, including Humphrey automated visual fields, Heidelberg widefield SpectralDomain OCTs, Zeiss Visucam, IOL Master 700 and Cirrus OCT, Espion E2 Electrophysiology System, Heidelberg confocal system for retina and cornea, iDesign, Avedro KXL system, Konan Endothelial Camera, Zeiss Atlas and Pentacam HR tomographer, Optos, VISX IntraLase and refractive laser system, and have fully implemented medical records and imaging software (HEYEX 2 and FORUM).  We also have approval for artificial iris transplantations.

This is an opportunity for clinical or research faculty, as we have growing support from the School of Medicine for both arenas.

Candidates must:

-be licensed in the State of Kansas or eligible for licensure in Kansas

-be either board eligible or board certified in Ophthalmology

-have successfully completed a cornea and external disease fellowship

-have a demonstrated record of progressively responsible leadership in clinical activities and administrative roles

-have strong organizational skills

-able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously

-able to manage competing and shifting priorities

Desired qualifications:

Academic background involving teaching with interest in clinical or basic research is preferred. Successful experience in growing own research programs with the ability to obtain funding from public and private sources.
