Position Overview

The Chief of Glaucoma will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and administrative leadership for a large and highly respected glaucoma department. The service is internationally recognized for excellence in patient care, innovation in surgical and medical management of glaucoma, and leadership in clinical research. The Chief will play a central role in shaping the future direction of the department and advancing Wills Eye’s mission as a leader in academic ophthalmology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership for all clinical, academic, and research activities of the Glaucoma Service
  • Maintain and further strengthen a high-volume, high-acuity clinical practice that serves as a regional, national, and international referral center
  • Lead and expand a robust portfolio of clinical research, including investigator-initiated studies, industry-sponsored trials, and translational collaborations
  • Mentor and develop faculty, fellows, residents, and clinical staff, fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and innovation
  • Oversee training programs and contribute to education across the institution including medical students, residents, fellows and CME activities
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership on strategic planning, faculty recruitment, resource allocation, and program growth
  • Represent the department nationally and internationally through professional societies, scholarly activity, and thought leadership


Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Ophthalmology and subspecialty training in Glaucoma
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania
  • Academic credentials appropriate for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in clinical glaucoma care
  • Strong track record of scholarly productivity and leadership in clinical research
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse group of faculty and trainees
  • Experience in academic administration or program leadership strongly preferred
