Director, Oculoplastics Service

Wills Eye is actively seeking a full- time board certified, fellowship trained, Oculoplastics Specialist and Director of the Oculoplastics Service.  Duties  include providing Oculoplastics expertise throughout the Wills Eye continuum of care, primarily the Wills Eye main campus, and Emergency Department. This team -oriented surgeon will also be performing orbital surgery and combined cases with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology departments.  The candidate will also have extensive experience in resident education including Operating Room supervision of residents and fellows.

Primary Function: Responsible for the overall operational success and growth of the Oculoplastics department in conjunction with administrative and clinical partners. Focuses on strategy, program development, service, and expansion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develops and evaluates staff in their performance of all goals and objectives of the department. Actively seeks professional growth opportunities for the team.
2. Recruits, develops and retains outstanding faculty and ensures an atmosphere of support and development.
3. Coordinates activities of the Oculoplastics physicians to develop a sense of unity and engender a higher level of prominence within and outside of Wills Eye.
4. Coordinates and facilitates coverage of departmental responsibilities including clinical services, educational commitments, and call coverage
5. Partners with the Ophthalmologist-in-Chief to cultivate philanthropic support for the service.
6. Engages and builds relationships with Wills Eye faculty and Sidney Kimmel faculty and supports morale across the service.
7. Provides surgical clinical services and participates in fellow, resident and medical student education.
8. Develops own oculoplastic practice of national prominence and participates in fellow, resident and medical student education
9. Coordinates resident education programs in oculoplastics
10. Coordinates Saturday updates, and Visiting Professor
11. Works with the manager of the department to ensure adequate resources and scheduling
12. Maintains a current knowledge base on local, regional and national healthcare delivery care models and reimbursement policies to run an operationally strong and financially solid service line.
13. Identifies and promotes appropriate clinical research, clinical trials and service initiatives that generate revenue and further the overall mission of Wills Eye.
14. Creates an environment that encourages diverse opinions, recognizes differences and incorporates into processes and services.
15. Respects and protects patients' rights to confidentiality and privacy. Discloses information only for professional purposes in the patients' best interest with full consideration of their legal rights

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must hold a MD or equivalent degree and have a PA medical license or be eligible for full, unrestricted licensure by the time of hire. Candidates must be board certified  in Ophthalmology (ABO) and have completed fellowship training in Oculoplastic Surgery and be a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), or be eligible to join ASOPRS, at the time of appointment. Demonstrated teaching competency as well as demonstrated success in clinical or laboratory research are essential. Must have a distinguished record of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. It is expected that successful programs will be advanced by the candidate in all these three areas.
