The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale University, School of Medicine is expanding the clinical practice and seeks an outstanding Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with or without additional retinal or other subspecialty training for a position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The Department of Ophthalmology has experienced robust growth, occurring mainly in the clinical areas. As we continue to grow, our next challenge is to expand our clinical areas.

The Department has a long-standing tradition of excellence in clinical care and research in multiple subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. Our faculty provide clinical services for patients with over 75,000 visits annually at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Dana Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, and the West Haven Veterans Affairs Hospital. We have a strong and competitive residency program, which consists of 15 residents, and fellowship programs.  The Department is located within the Yale University School of Medicine, which is one of the nation’s oldest and most competitive medical schools, consistently ranking in the top few in federal research funding. Clinical services are delivered through Yale Medicine, which is the largest multispecialty physician practice in New England, containing 1400 providers.

The Department is affiliated with the Yale New Haven Health System, a growing health care system including Yale-New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael’s Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. The Department is expanding into Fairfield County and beyond. Our department is growing, with plans to double its clinical and academic footprint over five years, adding multiple new clinical and research faculty members to coincide with this geographic expansion.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate who is interested in building a solid career in academic medicine in a superb setting for clinical practice, education, and research. The ideal candidate will be devoted to clinical excellence, to advancing our knowledge of understanding and treating uveitis, and have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students. Candidates should have an MD degree and be board certified or board eligible in ophthalmology, fellowship trained in general ophthalmology, and be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Connecticut. Interests should be primarily uveitis with or without comprehensive ophthalmology or other subspecialty interest, including but not limited to retina.
