Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology

The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Casey Eye Institute is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology. Applicants at the Professor or senior Associate Professor level will be considered. The Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, known as the Elks Children's Eye Clinic, currently includes 6 pediatric ophthalmologists, 1 pediatric optometrist, and 6 orthoptists.

Thanks to a $20 million pledge from the Oregon State Elks in support of pediatric eye care, OHSU recently broke ground on a $50 million, 60,000 square-foot building that will be named the Oregon Elks Children's Eye Clinic. The new building will sit beside the OHSU Casey Eye Institute, which has been the hub of the OHSU ophthalmology department since 1991. This position will be an opportunity for the candidate to create a vision for the future of pediatric ophthalmology regionally, nationally, and internationally.

This position will be part of the OHSU Casey Eye Institute, which is a highly-regarded department including 56 ophthalmologists, 7 optometrists, and numerous basic science faculty. Other sub-specialty services include cornea, retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, ophthalmic pathology, oncology, uveitis and ocular immunology, low vision rehabilitation, and ophthalmic genetics. We have a strong residency program with 15 residents, and 9 clinical fellowship programs (including pediatric ophthalmology & strabismus). Ophthalmic surgery, both for adult and pediatric patients, is performed in a fully-staffed ophthalmic operating suite at the OHSU Casey Eye Institute. In addition, OHSU’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is a dedicated pediatric hospital with world-class experts who offer a full spectrum of primary and specialized pediatric care. We typically rank #2-#7 nationally in NIH research funding compared to other ophthalmology departments.

The ideal candidate will be devoted to clinical excellence, to advancing our knowledge of understanding and treating ocular diseases, and to promoting medical education. Candidates must be certified and maintain certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and must have completed fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology. Oregon state medical licensure is required.  Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications.
