Cornea and External Disease Specialist

University of Oklahoma
Dean McGee Eye Institute/Department of Ophthalmology

The Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI)/University of Oklahoma (OU) is seeking a talented ophthalmologist with fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease who would assume an established practice in a unique environment offering a robust clinical and surgical volume (including endothelial keratoplasty and cataract surgery), excellent clinical and basic research opportunities, faculty participation in outstanding residency and fellowship programs, and state-of-the-art facilities, including a DMEI-owned ambulatory surgery center and LenSx femtosecond laser. Refractive surgery, collagen cross-linking, and LipiFlow technologies and an outstanding Clinical Trials Unit also are available.

The Institute provides approximately 200,000 total patient visits annually, completed a $47 million, 78,000-square-foot building expansion in 2011, and further increased the number of clinical lanes by another 25% in August 2018. The Department houses many National Institutes of Health-funded investigators greatly interested in collaboration and translational research (e.g., keratoconus, corneal wound healing, herpes simplex virus, fungal keratitis, bacterial endophthalmitis, animal models of uveitis, etc.). Many of the faculty serve in national leadership positions. Salary support is highly competitive.

Oklahoma City, with a population of approximately 650,000 and a metropolitan area of 1.4 million, is experiencing a major downtown renaissance and enjoys a low cost of living and unemployment rate, lots of sunshine, and numerous cultural and recreational opportunities (including NBA Thunder basketball).

Candidates must have completed an ophthalmology residency and a cornea/external disease fellowship (training and experience in refractive surgery also would be welcome), be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Oklahoma, and be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
